It emphasizes the importance of choosing a soundbar that complements LG TVs, focusing on factors like audio quality, connectivity options, and design. The Sonos Arc, Samsung HW-Q950A, and LG SN11RG are among the recommended soundbars, each offering unique features to enhance the viewing experience for LG TV owners.

Are you looking for a soundbar for your LG TV? If you are, you have come to the right place. We know how hard it can be to find the equipment that works perfectly with your TV so we did all the research, performed all the tests, and made this list of the best soundbars for LG TV in 2021 to make the whole buying process easier for you.

Why Do We Need Additional Audio Equipment?

New trends in the electronics sector have made TVs slimmer, better-looking, and more compact. However, along with the TV size reduction, the speakers have become not only smaller but also less powerful. Many customers complain that TV speakers are not loud enough but we believe that the bigger problem is their muffled and poor audio reproduction. Even if they can get loud, they become quite unpleasant to listen to, especially at high volumes. The sound simply gets too distorted.

Our list of the best soundbars for LG TV in 2021 includes different soundbar models that offer different placement and connection options but they are all quite easy to set up and use. Some of these models are quite cheap and have a very limited number of connections and other features. Others are expensive and feature-packed. Regardless of their price and features, all these models have one thing in common – they all sound good and no matter which one you choose, they will be a great upgrade in comparison with your LG TV speakers. All in all, we believe that there’s something for everyone on this list.

So, here’s our selection of the best soundbars for LG TV in 2021.

1. LG SL5Y 2.1 Channel High-Resolution Soundbar

LG SL5Y 2.1 Channel High-Resolution Soundbar

LG SL5Y is an affordable 2.1 channel soundbar that offers more than decent quality for the money and it can even be upgraded to a 5.1 system. It’s compatible with most LG TV models and it also offers a nice set of connection options, both wired and wireless.

What’s in the box?

The soundbar and the matching subwoofer come in an unusually shaped box. Besides the soundbar and the subwoofer, the package contains a remote control, a set of AAA batteries, optical cable, power cables, wall mount brackets, and a 1-year warranty card.

Things we like?

As every inexpensive soundbar, LG SL5Y offers decent performance and build quality, easy setup, and several additional features to attract more customers. The bar is quite thin and sleek (25×2.2×3.4 inches) and it weighs 5.2 pounds, while the subwoofer is larger (6.7×15.5×9.8 inches) and heavier (11.7 pounds). Nicely shaped and compact, this product will perfectly match any interior. It comes in black color and it looks quite elegant.

On the front side, you will see a small display that enables changing sound mode or input type and adjusting volume. The display will dim if you don’t touch any button for more than 15 seconds, so its light won’t annoy you during the night. On the right side, there are four buttons enabling you to adjust the volume, switch between input modes (including Bluetooth and USB), as well as the power on/off button. On the top, you can see the LG logo while all the ports are located on the back (digital/optical inputs, HDMI input, HDMI ARC output, and a USB port).

The subwoofer is even simpler. It has the LG logo on the front side and an indicator light that tells you if it’s paired with the soundbar.

The soundbar has two 40mm woofers and two 20mm tweeters, while the subwoofer has one 6-inch driver. Their total power output is rated at 400 W, while their SPL is 82dB with 4-Ohm impedance for the soundbar and 3-Ohm impedance for the subwoofer.

The best placement for the soundbar is below your TV. You can place it on a shelf or mount it on a wall. Either way, cable cluttering will be avoided because the system parts (soundbar and subwoofer) are connected wirelessly.

To control your LG soundbar, you can use the buttons on the bar itself, the accompanying and very responsive remote control or a mobile app that includes some extra features such as Dynamic Range Control, Auto Volume Leveler, and Night mode. The device supports LG Sound Sync, HDMI-CEC, and SIMPLELINK, which means that you can use your TV remote to control both TV and the soundbar.

When it comes to sound modes, you can choose between Adaptive Sound Control, Bass Blast, Standard or DTS Virtual:X. Adaptive Sound Control is a very useful feature because it identifies the content type and adjusts the volume level accordingly. This means that you won’t have to grab your remote and lower the volume level every time a movie is interrupted by commercials. There is also the possibility to tune the sound – you can adjust the treble and bass levels manually.

Apart from DTS Virtual:X, LG SL5Y supports some more common audio formats including LPCM, DTS, and Dolby Digital. When it comes to music, SL5Y supports Hi-Res Audio and WAV files, as well as MP3, OGG or WMA files, which you can play from your USB.

Between all the sound modes, we would sincerely recommend Standard and DTS Virtual modes as the sound is well balanced, clear, and detailed. The bar itself wouldn’t be able to cover the lows but the subwoofer really adds a great amount of impactful bass, making certain songs and movies very pleasant for listening/watching.

Things we don’t like

Even though SL5Y feels quite durable and well-built, you mustn’t forget that it’s mostly made of plastic.

DTS Virtual is intended to improve the listening experience by creating the impression that some extra speakers are present and that they are playing from different positions in a room. It’s amazing that a relatively affordable device offers such a feature but we have to be honest and tell that this 2.1 channel system can’t replace true surround sound system.

In addition, we have to disappoint Apple users because only Android users can install the LG SL5Y app and use additional soundbar control features. There’s no Smartphone Remote app for iOS.

2. LG SH4 2.1 Channel Soundbar

LG SH4 2.1 Channel Soundbar

SH4 is another affordable LG soundbar that comes with a wireless subwoofer. It can be used with different TV models but it shows its best when paired with LG TV (it’s ideal for 40+inch screens). It offers great performance for the money and it features both wired connections and Bluetooth.

What’s in the box?

The soundbar comes in a simple LG packaging with a remote, 2 AAA batteries, user manual, 12-month warranty card, and two detachable power cables for the bar and for the subwoofer.

Things we like?

SH4 has a typical LG soundbar design. It’s compact (35×3.3×2.1 inches) and it weighs 5.2 pounds while the total weight is approximately 14 pounds. This 2.1 system comes in elegant black color with a nice shiny aluminum finish on the soundbar and can easily fit any type of room.

On the front side, you will see the mesh covering the woofers and tweeters and a small but practical display that enables you to easily control the playback, change the source or make other adjustments. On the rear panel, you will find four small buttons that will allow you to turn the soundbar on/off, adjust the volume, and switch between soundbar functions. On the back, there are also different types of input/output ports – HDMI in and HDMI ARC OUT, USB, AUX-IN, and optical.

Most people choose to place their soundbars below the TV, on a TV shelf, which is perfectly doable with SH4 since it’s quite slim. However, thanks to the holes on the rear panel, you will be able to mount it on a wall, in case it fits better in your home.

The soundbar supports DTS 5.1 and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. You can use the USB port for music playback – the list of supported audio files is quite comprehensive and it includes FLAC, OGG, WMA, WAV, and MP3 formats. Moreover, you can pair your phone with this 2.1 system and stream music directly from it.

SH4 has the total output power of 300 W and the impedance of 3 Ohms for the subwoofer/4 Ohms for the soundbar. The overall sound quality is more than great for the price. The mids and highs are quite clear and pleasant for listening but the subwoofer really improves the final impression with its fast and punchy bass. In addition, the soundbar supports the Adaptive Sound Control mode, which automatically recognizes the type of video/audio content and adjusts the volume accordingly, making the whole experience balanced, pleasant, and stress-free.

To control your soundbar, you don’t have to use the buttons on the bar itself. Instead, you can use the accompanying small and responsive remote. When used with LG TV, SH4 can be controlled with the TV remote, too.

Things we don’t like

SH4 has a decent build quality but it is kind of plasticky, especially the subwoofer.

The soundbar offers a very good quality/price ratio but this doesn’t mean that you should expect true surround sound experience from it.

3. Sonos – Playbar Wireless Speaker

Sonos – Playbar Wireless Speaker

Sonos, as a brand, is one of the leaders in the modern wireless speaker market. Our list of the best soundbars for LG TV in 2021 includes two Sonos models and the first one is Sonos Playbar that offers great ease of use and numerous useful and interesting features. All those features, however, make this soundbar quite expensive and that’s one of its biggest downsides.

What’s in the box?

The soundbar comes in a nice packaging with a power cable, user manual, warranty card, and a digital optical cable.

Things we like?

Sonos Playbar weighs approximately 12 pounds but it also has quite a compact size (35×3.4×5.x inches). The device comes in silver/black color and we have to admit that it looks rather elegant. On the front side, you will find an IR sensor that shows the volume level. On the right side, there are three control buttons that enable you to play, pause or mute the sound. There are also two volume control buttons. On the rear panel, you will see a digital optical port, an AC input, and two Ethernet ports.

Besides the simple design, the Playbar is also easy to use. To control its work and adjust the settings, you can use the buttons on the top, your TV remote or a special Sonos app that can be installed and used on both Android and Apple smartphones. The app has the same control options with the addition of Night Mode (increasing the volume of quiet sounds and lowering loud ones) and Speech Enhancement features (improves speech/dialogue clarity).

Sonos Playbar can be connected to your home Wi-Fi network, even without using Ethernet ports – wirelessly. It is compatible with Alexa and Amazon Echo, and it enables you to stream music from any of the devices connected to your Wi-Fi network. In order to do this, you will have to install one or more of the 80 apps that this soundbar supports (Spotify, Tindal, Deezer, etc.).

When it comes to sound quality, we have to say that we were quite amazed by the Playbar’s performance. Thanks to its 6 full-range woofers and 3 tweeters, the mids and highs sound amazing. We couldn’t even notice any significant distortion at high volumes.

Things we don’t like

First of all, we have to mention that the package lacks a mounting kit. It’s sold separately.

Second of all, it lacks Bluetooth and it has to be connected to your TV via optical cable, which is not the best option. The Playbar doesn’t have HDMI ARC OUT and HDMI IN ports.

Also, we have to point out that the soundbar doesn’t support any DTS formats (only DD 5.1).

Last of all, we were very disappointed with the bass reproduction. We are aware that any soundbar can’t produce excellent bass without a subwoofer but we have expected a little bit more from such an expensive soundbar. It’s highly recommended to get a subwoofer (SONOS SUB) if you want better bass performance.

4. Bose Solo 5 TV Soundbar Sound System with Universal Remote Control

Bose Solo 5 TV Soundbar Sound System with Universal Remote Control

The next soundbar on our list of the best soundbars for LG TV in 2021 is Bose Solo 5. This one is probably the most affordable Bose soundbar. It’s a small, compact, and quite simple device. If you’re looking for a soundbar for your small apartment, Solo 5 is the right choice.

What’s in the box?

Bose Solo 5 comes in a simple box with its user manual, remote control, power cables, and digital optical cables.

Things we like?

The soundbar has a simple but elegant design. It comes in black color with a delicate shiny finish. Thanks to its dimensions (2.6×21.6×3.4 inches) and its weight (3.73 pounds), Bose Solo 5 will be a perfect choice for a small apartment.

On the front, you will find the aluminum mesh protecting two speakers, the logo, and the LED indicator. On the backside, there are five ports (power, coaxial, auxiliary, optical, and USB) as well as two holes for wall-mounting.

As far as the build quality is concerned, the soundbar seems really durable even though it’s mostly made of plastic. It can be mounted on a wall or placed below or in front of your TV.

One of the most important advantages of Bose Solo 5 is its ease of use. Your only task is to connect the digital optical cable to your LG TV and the TV speakers will be replaced with far better soundbar speakers. Besides your TV, you will be able to connect different audio sources to the soundbar and still be able to listen to audio through Bose Solo 5 speakers. In addition, the soundbar comes with a universal remote that can control the entire audio system (TV, BluRay player, gaming system, etc.).

When it comes to sound quality, we can’t say that Bose made a perfect bar but it definitely sounds better than TV speakers. The sound is clear and crisp. There’s a nice balance across the audible range. If you like to listen to loud music, Bose Solo 5 is the perfect choice for you. Depending on your preferences and the content you are watching, you can switch between Bass boost and Dialogue audio modes.

Bose Solo 5 supports both wired and wireless (Bluetooth) connections, and it can be used with different types of TVs, players, smartphones, etc.

Things we don’t like

You have to be aware that the device’s ease of use comes from the fact that it doesn’t have any special features. Apart from the fact that the sound could be more energetic and powerful, the manufacturer could add more settings and more options for adjusting the sound. They could at least add a small display and make the bar management a lot easier.

The soundbar can be mounted on a wall but the mounting kit is not included. You have to buy it separately.

5. Sonos Beam – Smart TV Sound Bar with Amazon Alexa Built-in

Sonos Beam - Smart TV Sound Bar with Amazon Alexa Built-in

Check Price on Amazon

Check Price on Walmart

Sonos Beam is a powerful multifunctional soundbar with numerous useful and interesting features that require a thicker wallet. However, it’s probably the least expensive soundbar with a built-in Alexa and Google Assistant.

What’s in the box?

The soundbar comes in an elegant black packaging with optical to HDMI adapter, power cable, HDMI cable, and user manual.

Things we like?

Sonos Beam is a compact pill-shaped soundbar that comes in elegant matte black and white colors. The soundbar is the true representative of the modern era since it can be controlled with voice commands and with a phone app. It has five built-in mics that catch your commands perfectly even if you’re not right in front of the device.

On the front side of the bar, you will only see the Sonos logo, while the touch-sensitive controls (play/pause, skip track, rewind track, volume controls, enable/disable mic) are placed on the top. On the rear panel, you will find the power port, Bluetooth pairing button, as well as Ethernet and HDMI ARC ports.

The soundbar is well-built and it’s easy to set up. It has numerous features but if you want to get the most out of it, you really need to use the Sonos app. That way, you will be able to adjust the bar to your needs completely.

Sonos Beam can be used in both wired and wireless modes. When in wireless mode, you can pair it via Bluetooth with your phone or tablet and use it to stream music from different music apps. Another great thing is that the bar has Wi-Fi capabilities and can be connected to your home Wi-Fi network.

We were pretty happy with the sound quality. It sounds natural and just a little bit bright. It uses a special technique to make the human voice more audible and understandable. Due to its small dimensions (25.6×2.6×4.0 inches), the bar is intended for use in smaller rooms and it’s compatible with 55-inch TVs (max) but it can definitely get loud enough to fill a larger room with a pleasant sound.

One of the greatest advantages of the Sonos Beam is its expandability. It can be easily upgraded to a true wireless surround sound system by adding the Sonos wireless subwoofer and Sonos wireless surround speakers. It can even be a part of the multiroom system.

Things we don’t like

One of the biggest problems of Sonos Beam is the lack of a subwoofer because. The Beam itself is not capable of producing deep and immersive bass.

On the other hand, the bar supports only HDMI ARC connection, which means that you can’t count on it if your TV doesn’t HDMI ARC IN.

In addition, we have noticed certain problems with assistants. You can’t smoothly switch between assistants because you have to go to the settings and disable one assistant in the app in order to activate another. We also have to point out that Alexa works far better than the Google Assistant.

In the end, it is necessary to say that there’s no remote in the package and there’s no wall-mount kit.

6. VIZIO SB3820-C6 38-Inch 2.0 Channel Soundbar

VIZIO SB3820-C6 38-Inch 2.0 Channel Soundbar

Check Price on Amazon

Check Price on Walmart

Vizio SB3820-C6 is one of the most affordable soundbars on our list of the best soundbars for LG TV in 2021. The soundbar can be used in both wired and wireless (Bluetooth) modes and it represents a great inexpensive solution for smaller rooms/apartments (dimensions: 38x3x3 inches). Apart from its two 3-inch speakers, it has two passive radiators that add some bass to the sound.

What’s in the box?

C6 comes in simple packaging with its user manual, a wall-mount kit, remote control, 2 triple-A batteries, 12-month warranty, as well as a set of cables (power cable, coaxial, digital optical, and stereo RCA).

Things we like?

Vizio SB3820-C6 doesn’t look great but it’s good enough considering the price. Due to its all-black design and the fact that it’s covered with acoustic fabric, the bar looks rather elegant and it can be easily combined with different kinds of furniture. On the front side, you will find the LED lights indicating volume level or pairing status. On the top, you will find the power and source buttons, as well as the Bluetooth button and volume controls. On the backside, there is a set of ports (power, optical, RCA, and USB).

The soundbar is easy to set up and use. Besides the fact that you can use it in wired and Bluetooth modes, you can place it differently – on a shelf below your TV or mount it on a wall above or under it. The package contains all the necessary instructions for the mounting, which means you can easily do it yourself.

When it comes to sound quality, we have to admit that it sounds better than we expected. The mids and highs are quite clear. They sound very pleasant and natural. The vocals are audible and clear, which makes it great for both listening to music and watching movies. Vizio C6 can also get very loud. The bar doesn’t come with a subwoofer but the passive radiators somehow manage to compensate for the lack of a dedicated subwoofer.

Also, the soundbar supports Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS TruSound, and DTS TruVolume.

Things we don’t like

Even though the soundbar features Bluetooth, pairing it wirelessly with your TV would be a bad idea since it doesn’t support aptX low latency. Without aptX LL, you will experience a significant audio delay. So, you can use Bluetooth for music streaming only.

We would also like to warn you that you should probably upgrade it by adding a subwoofer, especially if you prefer deep bass. The radiators work fine but they simply can’t replace the subwoofer.

7. Yamaha YAS-108 Sound Bar with Built-in Subwoofers & Bluetooth

Yamaha YAS-108 Sound Bar with Built-in Subwoofers & Bluetooth

Check Price on Amazon

Check Price on Walmart

Yamaha YAS-108 is a relatively affordable soundbar and it delivers great performance for the money. It is quite compact (34.4×2.1×4.8 inches) and it’s excellent for smaller apartments and for 55-inch LG TVs.

What’s in the box?

YAS-108 comes in a simple cardboard packaging with its user manual, power cord, digital optical cord, remote control, analog audio adapter, as well as 2 spacers for wall mounting.

Things we like?

The soundbar comes in black color and it’s almost entirely wrapped in acoustic fabric that gives the device an elegant look. On the top, you will find the indicator lights that show you which audio mode is on and which source is active (HDMI, TV, analog, Bluetooth). Besides, you also have the source button, power on/off button, and volume controls. On the backside, you will see the optical input, HDMI ARC output, HDMI input, and an analog 3.5mm jack.

YAS-108 is made of thick plastic and it looks and feels quite durable. Due to its thinness, you can place it on a shelf below your TV. If you want, you can also mount it on a wall. The soundbar comes alone but you can easily upgrade it by adding a subwoofer.

Recommended Reading :

The soundbar supports wired and wireless connections. When it comes to surround sound formats, YAS-108 supports Dolby 5.1, DTS 5.1, and DTS Virtual:X. In case you want to adjust the sound signature, you can do it by using the included remote that also enables you to manage all the basic settings as well as the subwoofer’s volume. When it comes to sound adjustments, you can improve dialogs or enhance the bass reproduction.

Yamaha YAS-108 sounds more than satisfying for an inexpensive soundbar. It has a decent mid-range performance. The vocals and dialogs are loud and clear. The soundbar is great for both movies and music. It’s also great for podcasts and audiobooks.

Things we don’t like

The bar doesn’t come with an HDMI cable, so if you want to connect it to your LG TV via HDMI, you will have to buy it separately.

Although the overall sound performance is good, we would like to point out that the users who prefer a strong bass emphasis and action movies won’t be perfectly happy. The good news is that you can add a subwoofer to this soundbar and improve the bass response significantly.

8. Samsung HW-N300 2-Channel TV Mate Soundbar

Samsung HW-N300 2-Channel TV Mate Soundbar

Check Price on Amazon

Check Price on Walmart

The last product on our list of the best soundbars for LG TV in 2021 is an affordable wireless 2.0 soundbar that offers decent quality for a relatively small amount of money.

What’s in the box?

The soundbar comes in a simple cardboard packaging with the corresponding manuals, warranty card, power cable, and a remote.

Things we like?

Due to the matte black style and compact design (25.2×2.5×4.2 inches), Samsung HW-N300 will fit easily any smaller room and it will fill it with great sound. The design is quite minimalistic with the Samsung logo on the top. The volume controls, power, and source buttons are on the right side. Auxiliary input, optical input, and a USB port are located on the rear panel.

The soundbar is relatively cheap. It is wrapped in acoustic fabric and, in our opinion, it looks well-built and durable. It can be used in both wired and wireless modes. When it comes to placement, you can put it on a TV shelf or you can mount it on a wall.

When it comes to the wireless connection, N300 features Bluetooth 4.2 and it’s easy to pair it with different Bluetooth-enabled devices. Besides your LG TV, it can be paired with your phone or tablet. You can use your phone or tablet to control the bar through the Samsung app or to stream the music using all kinds of apps and streaming services. In case you have your favorite music stored on a USB, there is a USB port (it can only be used for music playback).

The device can be controlled by its remote. The remote offers much more control over the sound and playback than the buttons on the soundbar.

The soundbar has four built-in speakers as well as one woofer. It supports Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 The USB port supports AAC, MP3, WAV, and FLAC audio files. The bar sounds quite clear and natural, while the woofer adds some nice bass. If you want to change the sound signature, you can use your remote to select the Surround mode or the Standard mode. You can also increase/decrease the bass volume.

Things we don’t like

Samsung HW-N300 is a great low-budget choice for smaller apartments but if you’re a bass enthusiast, you won’t be satisfied. The soundbar simply can’t deliver the kind of bass you would get from a real subwoofer.

Also, we have to warn you that the package doesn’t include a wall-mount kit or any audio cable. You are supposed to buy these things separately.

The soundbar has no display so it’s hard to tell the volume level or the woofer settings.

FAQs

Q: Are soundbars good enough?

A: We won’t lie to you and say that soundbars are the best thing that can happen to your home audio system because everybody knows they aren’t. There are many different speaker systems on the market that will improve your listening experience more than any soundbar but if they are any good, they will also cost much more than a great soundbar. If you want a true surround sound experience, you should go for a home theater system or for a wireless surround sound system. However, if your goal is only to improve the sound of your TV speakers, any soundbar from our list of the best soundbars for LG TV in 2021 will be a great choice.

Q: What’s the best connection method?

A: Modern soundbars, as well as TVs, have multiple connection options. Wired connection, although a lot messier and more complicated, is a more reliable option. Most soundbars have multiple ports that enable you to choose the type that suits you most. Since most soundbars and LG TVs have at least one HDMI and one digital optical port, we believe that you have no reason to worry. The only important thing is to have the matching ports on both devices – your TV or your soundbar.

If you like convenience, you should also look for a soundbar that supports Bluetooth. Even if you can’t or don’t want to use this type of connection with your TV, it can come in handy if you want to stream music from your phone or tablet.

Q: Do I need a subwoofer?

A: Well, this is a matter of taste. Most of the soundbars on our list come without a subwoofer with the exception of two 2.1 LG bars.

If you are satisfied with the sound quality of your soundbar, the subwoofer is not absolutely necessary. However, you should know that adding a sub will definitely improve your movie-watching experience. The subwoofers can simply deliver the bass frequencies that most soundbars can’t and that makes the audio reproduction more detailed and more immersive. So, you should at least consider buying a soundbar that can be easily upgraded to a 2.1 system.

Q: How much should I pay for a soundbar?

A: The soundbar production has become so massive that you can easily find soundbars that fit any budget. However, there’s no point in buying the cheapest available model that doesn’t offer the minimum quality and doesn’t work better than your LG TV speakers. So, if your brand-new TV costs $500+, you should at least spend $200 or $300 on a soundbar. It’s even better if you can spend more. Just don’t settle for cheap generic soundbars.

Q: What is the right soundbar size for me?

A: Although customers usually think that larger soundbars deliver better sound quality and higher power output, that’s not always the case. Sometimes the extra inches don’t mean more drivers or more power but only more occupied space.

However, due to the esthetic reasons and increased functionality, you should try to find the soundbar that doesn’t look too small or too big in comparison with your TV or your apartment/living room.
